What's New on antonbrucknerchoir.org

A lot of hard work has gone in to the website recently, and there are a number of new features you might like to know about. Much of this is in response to feedback, so if there's anything you'd like to say, please do.

iPhone Support

ABC Website on a smartphone

Actually this should be most modern smart phones (Android and BlackBerry too). Just visit the site as normal and you will see it in a way perfectly suited to the smaller screen.

It's the whole site, so you will be able to do pretty much everything you can do when sitting at your computer, but it's a little bit experimental, so small things may need improving. If you spot anything that doesn't work well on your phone, please say so.

Improved Sign In

Another aspect of the site that receives lots of feedback is the sign in system. To improve this there is the new 'remember me' feature and a much needed update to the password reset process.

Remember Me

When you sign in, you can now tick the 'Remember Me' box. This will mean that next time you go to the site you won't be asked for your sign in details.

It's just on the computer you have signed in on, but you can do this on as many computers as you like. You can also manage the computers you use this feature on, even if you no longer have access to them all.

The best thing to do is try it for yourself.

Password Reset

Some people have had a little trouble resetting their password because the site forgets the validation number it has sent out. The process is unchanged, but the site will now remember the validation code much more easily.

These two improvements have meant a small change to the site's privacy policy. Accounts on antonbrucknerchoir.org are by invitation only.

Better Information for Singers

Singers' Summary Pages

If you are a singing member, part of your invitation to sing in a concert is a new page that summarises all the information about the concert that used only to be available if you started the reply process. So, now you can look up rehearsals, music requirements and any other notices about the invitation in one convenient page.

Remember all pages of the site are designed to print well, so you can usefully print this page to take it round the house to visit your music library and the year planner on the back of the kitchen door.

Concert Reply History

Now that several concerts have used the online reply system, a new page has been added for you to see a summary of all your concert invitations and your responses to them. This will always be there, and no response will be deleted so that you always have a complete history at your fingertips.

The reply history can be found in the For Singers section of My ABC.

Location Pages with Maps

A Location Page of the ABC Website

Everywhere we rehearse or perform now has its own page of the site. This has a nice description of the venue, an interactive map and public transport information. There's even a link to the Transport for London Journey Planner, which will try to set the correct arrival time for the rehearsal.

Each rehearsal or concert has a link to the location page of its venue, or there is a list of them all.

Improved Sharing

For the last concert, the sharing page was broken. You'll be pleased to know that it has been fixed and all the social bookmarking links are working again.

It now includes an option for Twitter and a ready shortened page address (using bit.ly) for you to use in your own messages.

To share the page you are looking at with your friends, relations and colleagues click the Share link in the toolbox.

New Platform

OK, so you can't see it, but a lot of these new features were made possible by an overhaul of the software framework that the site runs on. This will also make it easier to add new things in the future.
