Although now used primarily for rehearsal by ABC, St Matthews was the venue of the choir's first concert. ABC was born from a choir formed to perform in a fund-raising event that enabled the expensive Victorian building to be demolished and replaced by the modern multi-use building and its adjacent low cost housing.
